On March 16, 2020, in consultation with City staff, the Huntington Beach City Council officially adopted a coordinated 3 Phase response plan to address the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak. While providing flexibility to modify our approach, the three phase response plan pre-identifies triggering events that escalates our approach to instituting community mitigation strategies, coordinating emergency response considerations, and overall impacts to city services.

In addition, the Huntington Beach City Council formally declared a Local Emergency in Huntington Beach on March 16, 2020 to further bolster our ability to respond to the COVID-19 situation, and based on that directive, City staff is now working to implement Phase II of our COVID-19 Response Plan.

Our Huntington Beach community can expect impacts to libraries and recreation services immediately. More details in regard to city services that will be impacted will be posted on the website in the coming days.

Residents can be assured that the decision to proclaim a local emergency is based on guidance from local and federal partner agencies with the welfare of the community, visitors and employees of Huntington Beach at the forefront. The decision was made in order to limit community spread of the virus and continue to provide essential city service to our community.
