The Huntington Beach City Junior Lifeguard program has a long history of placing a priority on the safety and protection of our students and instructors. It is with this same priority that we approached the discussion in regard to the 2020 Huntington Beach City Junior Lifeguard program.
After many hours of thoughtful deliberation, the City made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Huntington Beach City Junior Lifeguard program out of an abundance of caution during the COVID-19 pandemic. Those families who have already registered their children for the program will receive a full refund within the next several weeks.
We fully understand that the Junior Lifeguard program has become an integral part of many families’ lives during the summer months. We are sympathetic that this decision will be the most difficult for the dedicated students who were looking forward to this summer’s program, the relationships they would build, and the daily interactions with our amazing instructors.
Although there is no tangible replacement for the many experiences that occur during the program, we are pleased to announce that all returning Junior Lifeguard participants will have the ability to participate in an online video-based experience that will be taught by our instructor staff. This online experience will cover many topics including beach safety, first aid, and workouts that the students can complete at home with their families. As the Junior Lifeguard program finalizes the new online experience and strives to find exciting and innovative opportunities for our students during the summer, updates will be sent to all families and posted on the website below.

We understand the impact that this decision will have on our Junior Lifeguard families, and our hope is that all of the Junior Lifeguard families will understand that this decision is being made out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of the many students who call Junior Lifeguards home during each summer.
