Based on new Orange County Guidance, all residents and visitors in Orange County, with some exceptions, must wear face coverings when in public to help prevent the spread of COVID-19
The Orange County Health Care Agency issued a new Order effective May 23 requiring that residents and visitors in Orange County wear cloth face coverings under the following conditions:
- In a public place;
- Visiting a retail, commercial or other place of business; or
- At work, and when the resident or visitor is not able to maintain at least 6 feet of physical distance from another person who is not a family/household member or live in the same living unit.
Of note, the County’s face covering order does not apply to children under the age of 2; anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the cloth face-covering without assistance; or persons with a medical or mental health condition, or development disability, that prevents wearing a cloth face-covering. However, these groups should take care to practice other ways to limit the spread of COVID-19, such as hand washing and social distancing whenever possible.
Additional details related to this new face covering requirement can be found on the Orange County Health Care Agency’s COVID-19 website at:
As individuals consider this new Orange County Order, the City wanted to remind everyone that a face covering is not a surgical mask or N-95 respirator, which should be reserved for healthcare workers and first responders. Face coverings can be fashioned from various types of common, everyday fabrics, including t-shirts, scarves, bed sheets, or towels. Additionally, face coverings can be purchased at certain retail stores or can be made at home using instructions posted at www.HBready.com.
Additional guidance on how to safely secure and remove your face covering is also available on the CDC’s website at:
